Procrastination is something that we have all been familiar at one point in our life. You know that the paper deadline is quickly approaching but that TV series is so interesting, having fun with your friends is so exciting and spending time on Facebook is something that you enjoy also. But when you realize that you have to turn in the paper tomorrow you will get the true meaning of stress and panic.

“How can I write my paper by tomorrow?” you may ask yourself. And at this point, the writer’s block pops up and once you have blocked your creative parts of your brain, it’s over. You will not get anything done. So the first step in such a situation is to relax. Clear your mind of everything else, turn off the TV, phone and Facebook and focus.

Here are a few tips and tricks for writing your paper on a short deadline:

  1. Find the right topic

What is it that you want to write about? Where do you want to get with that? Is that interesting? Once you know exactly what the topic of your paper is, you will be able to focus and work more effectively. Then take a few moments to brainstorm and create an outline. Think about the implications and assumptions of your paper, what background information you need and how you can relate this to the world.

Write down points that support your topic. Gather all the books, articles, research papers and textbooks that you need. Having them beside you will help you avoid running around aimlessly to find the book that you need. A plan will be of utmost importance to bring together all your ideas. It will also help you remember everything that you want to mention in your paper. Write down main ideas that you will develop later.

  1. Plan your time wisely

Before you start writing, make sure you completely understand what you have to write about. If the teacher asks you to evaluate a topic, do not fill the pages with a summary. If you have to include evidence about what you write, do not write an essay on personal opinions.

Start with the larger and most complicated essay questions, to be able to answer them in due time and to avoid burnout.

  1. How much should you write?

Of course, you want to get a good grade for your paper, but if the close deadline is hurtling towards you, it is not a good time to aim for perfection. Yes, quality is more important than quantity, but this does not mean you should write half a page and consider this an essay. If the teacher has not specified a certain number of pages you should write as much as you can in the allotted time. If you still have time after you have finished it, you can add a bit more. You are not one of the professional paper writers, your teacher will understand that.

  1. Proofreading

Although you might think that you only have time to write your paper, you should always find some minutes to proofread what you have written.  It takes only a moment to run a spell check, but this moment will save you from getting a bad mark. No matter how brilliant your paper might be, spelling mistakes will make it seem junk. You can also ask someone else to read it and just give their opinion on your essay. It might help you add a new idea or maybe take out some information that was not useful.

  1. Take regular breaks

It might sound absurd, but even if you think that you do not even have time to breathe, you should take short breaks to keep you alert and awake. You will clear your mind and find new ideas that you have not thought about before when you were just staring at a white paper.

Although leaving your paper for the last moment is not a good idea, we all had to face a tight deadline once or several times even. Do not panic, follow these steps and everything will be alright.
